View of the falls. Yes, it really is this beautiful in the Canadian Okanagan Valley.

Easter Hike at Bear Creek, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia

The best way to encourage children to join you on a wilderness hike is to make sure the hike includes some amazing natural features. Bear Creek has it all!

It’s the perfect family hike because there is a spectacular water fall, rushing creek, gorgeous wild flowers, pristine forest and magnificent views of Okanagan Lake all included in a short one hour hike. On Easter Sunday, my youngest daughters and I joined my sister’s Miranda’s family for a hike at Bear Creek. I’ve hiked with my children since they were babies. During the difficult years (when the kids felt hiking was too tiring) I often bribed them with a little picnic stop at the 1/2 way mark for a chocolate treat. It worked, and today all of my daughters enjoy hiking. I hope you enjoy a few pictures from our hike:

Bear Creek is one of my all time favourite hikes and we’ve been hiking at Bear Creek ever since Tabitha (the one in the purple hoodie and pink shoes) was one year old.

Cousins tromping throughout the forest–so far no reports of any ticks catching a ride on any of them. It’s tick season and last weekend Tabitha found 2 on herself after a hike.

Balsam Root flowers--a symbol of the Okanagan and one of my favourite flowers. They cover the hillsides every spring.
