Dream Big. Take Action.

For children, it’s the process of creating and believing in a dream that’s more important than the final outcome.

My youngest daughter Pippi is wild for animals. She told me the other day that she’s going to live in the wilderness with all the wild animals and 999,000 pets.

She and her cousin Artemis decided to start a pet business (see poster above). The business is based on pet care. She thought we’d house all the neighbourhood pets at our house and care for them when their owners were away. I reminded her of our dog Pablo’s desire to stalk little creatures and thought it best for the business if Pippi travelled within the neighbourhood and looked after the pets in their own homes.

Of course, Artemis and Pippi love animals so much, they want to do the business for free. I explained that a free business is okay, but her business should be limited to feeding and/or walking small pets when the owners are away.

Pippi went to work, diligently creating poster after poster.

I like to encourage all of my daughter’s dreams; so, I agreed to help her put the posters on mail boxes. I used my name and phone number to direct any actual calls she receives to me.

Pippi’s learning leadership. After completing several posters for our neighbourhood, she promptly called her cousin to see how her posters were doing. When Artemis said she hadn’t put any up yet, Pippi was all business: Artemis had to get out there and put them up, now!

When no calls were forth coming, I explained to her that sometimes business is like that. It can take years to get things off the ground.

So, as things stand now, the business is advertised but not booming.

Her first client is a big one though, her auntie ( a vet) has hired her to work in her clinic this summer helping  taking care of all of the over night patients.

I guess, in business, this saying is true: It’s not who you know; It’s who knows you!

Sounds like Pippi is already a “take charge” entrepreneur!

She is a little go-getter! A big day for her today. She told me she’s crying tears of joy because the chicks have started to hatch and Pirate sleep over tonight! I’m going to get the big girls to drop and dash otherwise she’ll cling to me and carry on…
