Blue Lagoon: Bora Bora

Blue Lagoon: Bora Bora

This is not a pool. This is the lagoon off Matira Beach, Bora Bora

The blue lagoon that surrounds Bora Bora is fantasy turquoise, warm and endless.

We spend mornings snorkelling off the beach that has dozens of coral mounds and then move down the beach to spend our afternoons in the massive swimming-pool like side of the lagoon.

I hope you enjoy a peek at our time frolicking in the blue lagoon. It is such an amazing place to hang out, I’ve dedicated this entire post to nothing but Blue Lagoon antics.

I have had a reoccurring dream almost all of my life. I am swimming through shallow, crystal clear, warm turquoise water with a white sand bottom. I’ve been to many tropical seas, oceans, lagoons but none of them match the dream. I now realize the dream was foretelling my future in Bora Bora.

Water Acrobatics

Below: acrobatic attempt–nailed it!

Finally Success!

Our attempt at a triple decked shoulder sit:

I pull out my best move–a handstand.

Peter being stoic under my weight…

After a few failed attempts we nailed it.

Below: Peter photobombs Pip’s close-up.

The high salt content makes the water super easy to float in.

The water at Matira point is is shallow for a long way out and most days it is calm and nearly still. Some days though, there is a strong sweep current and the calm lagoon feels like a river, with all the water flowing parallel to the shore.

Below: this day, Mist stands in the lagoon and the water is strong, like a swift flowing river.

Mist swimming just under the surface of the water on a calm day with no current.

Floating with my eyes closed–the best meditation.

*Stay tuned for my next post snorkelling in Bora Bora.
