These Boots Were Not Made For Walking

You don’t appreciate what you’ve got until it’s gone. Such is my appreciation for being able to walk my dogs. I know it is temporary and that it could be much worse; I am not complaining as much as I am explaining my current situation. I injured my heel 3 months ago (bruised bone and destroyed heel pad) and it refuses to heal. I’ve given up all of my sports   I tried to at least keep walking my dogs in the forest but even walking is agony so I’ve succumbed to only cycling and weight lifting for as long as it takes. I miss running and walking in the forest most of all…cycling isn’t the same—I go too quickly to absorb all the peace.

Pippi

To make matters more awkward, my youngest daughter, Pippi, sprained her ankle and is on crutches for a while. She’s real trooper. She took the school bus home and proceeded to hop and then crawl up the 1/2 km hill to our house (yes, I was furious with the school for not phoning me).

With my eldest daughter away at University and Peter travelling for work, the only good legs we have in my house belong to my middle daughter, Tabitha. The dogs are very thankful for Tabitha’s legs.

About that injured heel of mine…I have a book launch and tour coming up. I purchased (online) a pair of (amazing) Italian ankle boots to wear to the launch.

FYI, if you want to see the boots in (wobbly) action, here’s the list of my tour dates (show up at one of these locales and I’ll be there in the boots):

I admit to being a little delusional about the boots: I like to think that heels might actually “help” my foot—high heels put pressure on the ball of the foot (not the heel) and if Taylor Swift can perform in 6 inch heels…

I bought them for a few reasons: they are gorgeous Italian boots, I love them, and they were ON SALE!

The boots arrive. The boots are beautiful. I’ve never owned a pair of shoes with such a high heel. I cannot walk in the boots. I decide to send back the boots. Arnold Churgin says, No! You cannot return the boots. The boots were on sale, final sale…

I own a gorgeous pair of Italian boots. I will wear the boots to the book launch, even if I look comical in them. Tabitha’s been practicing walking in them (she’s good). I need a lot more practice. I leave you with a clip of my new boots.
