Happy 18 Birthday Mistaya!

18BirthdayMy darling eldest daughter turns 18 today at approximately 4 p.m. this afternoon.

My water broke at midnight and I had to spend the next 16 sleepless hours (it was my first baby; I was so nervous and excited) in hospital waiting for the contractions to start. I remember heading to the hospital stairwell to climb up and down the stairs to try and get the contractions started. A nurse checked up on me and scolded, “I said walk, not run up and down the stairs!” I was so full of adrenalin, I was flying up and down the stairs. I will never forget the first time I saw Mistaya’s bright eyes and inquisitive face. I knew I was dealing with a very wise little soul. Motherhood has been my primary career since that moment and I have adored (and still adore) every moment of the greatest profession on earth.
Mistaya’s been a delight to raise all her 18 years. She is now in first year at university. I learned something new about her last night! I was telling her that she shares the ability to mirror write with Leonardo Da Vinci. She can quickly write anything, instantly, in mirror image. I was telling her scientists believe that such people can accomplish this because the L and R hemispheres of the brain are very connected compared to people who cannot mirror write instantly. She then said, “I guess that’s why I can reverse hands mid-song and play the piano parts with the opposite hands.” Wow, I had no idea she could do that!
Happy Birthday to my first-born, beautiful girl, Mistaya! I love you more than the universe and beyond xoxo
