Be Happy Like a 2nd Grader

I used to think of happiness as an elusive state that I wanted to reach and then cling to for as long as possible.

What I know now is that happiness is to be present in the moment and simply delight in it.

Buddhists believe that ultimate happiness comes when we are able to delight in simply being alive in the present moment.

I think if one can continually string together moments of being present and delighted with the simple joys of life, well, that will be good enough to coast you right on through to a ripe old age.

Put forth a little effort and actively seek simply delightful opportunities to enjoy.

Take a moment to watch the video below. It’s of a second grade music class singing and dancing to Happy by Pharrell Williams while playing the spoons. I dare you to grab a couple of spoons, put Happy on your iPod and dance, sing and play the spoons to it. There is simply no way you won’t feel happy after that—you might also feel like a nerd, but a happy-nerd.

BTW, that is my darling daughter Pip rocking the spoons in the back row.
