Bowie philia seems to be my genes. I have had an artist crush on the guy since I was a young teen and so do all of my daughters. I admit, his Let’s Dance album is one of my favourites.

In an odd twist, fiction became fact in my family. I wrote a novel and the protagonist is a teenage girl who is a huge Bowie fan—knows all his songs, albums and movies by heart, his entire history, a walking Bowie encyclopedia. The Novel is titled Queen of the Godforsaken and will be released by Thistledown Press in 2015. As luck would have it, a decade after I wrote the first draft, my own teenage daughter, Mist, turned into the Bowie encyclopedia I wrote about. My youngest daughter, Pippi, is following closely in her sister’s Bowie footsteps.

Recently, Pippi has become a budding script writer/actor/director. She asked me if I’d mail a letter for her, to David. I read the letter that she and her cousin had written together and told her that I’d do my best.

I looked up his fan mail address in New York and posted the letter. I hope it reaches dear David. I’ve never sent a fan letter before so I have no idea if they actually reach the artists that they’re intended for.

But just incase the letter doesn’t arrive in New York as intended, this letter is for you David Bowie.*

I’m sure he’ll come to Kelowna. Who wouldn’t want to be in a movie titled “The Three Scientists”?
