Mauna Kea

posted in: Travel, U.S.A. 1

We spent yesterday at the beaches of Mauna Kea and Anaehi’omalu. We snorkeled both places and played in the waves–body surfing. The coral was big and beautifully coloured: green, orange and purple. It was very wavy and the ocean unpredictable at Mauna Kea so they wouldn’t rent boogie boards out. The snorkeling was a little murky as the waves stirred up the sand. I didn’t know until Theresa told me later (at supper) that sharks prefer the sandy, stirred up water. When PJ and I beach it alone with the little girls, we have to snorkel alone. So that precludes going too far out. Saw a lovely honu (sea turtle)again. She was right at the beach in very shallow water, lifting her cute head up to take breaths and look around at us. We met Theresa and crew at Tommy Bahamas for “Island Hour” supper of appies. The Mist came home with us for a one night sleepover as Tabs has been missing her terribly.
