First Day of School Mom Fail

Dead snake found on my morning run.

First day back at school for my three darling daughters (grades 2, 8 and 12) and all I have to show for it this morning is a picture of a dead snake.

I forgot to take first day back to school pics…fail…

However, on my morning run I came upon a dead snake (rattler or gopher). I brought it home to show my girls as my youngest daughter, Pip, has a fascination with snakes (just like her mom). I arrived on my doorstep, with dogs and snake in hand and called into the house, “Science 101 lesson! Outside quick! I found a dead snake!”

All the girls came running and Pip was so enthralled with the snake that she’s taken it to school in a Tupperware container to show her class.

It seems, the snake turned out to be the very best thing this mom could have found on such a morning as “First Day of 2nd Grade.” Pip has suffered from separation anxiety (it peaks at ages 7-9 in school aged children) for the past 6 months and we are working through it with meditation techniques and positive reinforcement; having the dead snake to take to school gave her an exciting purpose and no tears were shed as she stepped on the bus and waved good-bye to mom this morning.IMG_7450_2
The tip of the tail is missing, it has large jaws and diamond type markings, which means it could either be a baby rattler (diamond back) or a gopher snake–both common to the mountain I live on. It was squashed by a car on the road I run down. Sad, I do love snakes.

There is a bright side: I didn’t get a pic of my adorable girls yet; but as soon as they arrive home (it’s a half day), I will snap a pic of my lovelies in their new get-ups.
