Pablo the Possible

Snow has arrived in the Okanagan Valley!  Fluffy snow and mild temperatures (+2 C) make for a beyond beautiful day. We spent the morning tobogganing on the mountains surrounding our home (also spotted a large coyote making its way through the forest).
My dogs spent the morning getting into mischief.
Here he is in all his dog glory, my pup, Pablo, the mischief-maker. He doesn’t look much different from any other Old Boston Bulldog, or any dog for that matter. Oh, but he is…different. Pablo is a genius dog
. Seriously. How did a brain so smart end up in such a dominant, dog-fight-loving being?
I often let the boys outside in our backyard to play. Usually, when the boys want inside, they sit at the back door and dog-sing.
It is during this type of dog singing that I’ll hear a distant neighbor shout into the night, “Would someone shut those fucking dogs up!”
Lately though, Pablo can’t be bothered to wait. I will suddenly find him at my feet. I  think, didn’t I just put him out? Sure enough, Fernando is still outside, waiting at the back door.
But Pablo, somehow, lets himself in and finds me!
I check downstairs and discover the front door wide open.
When Pablo is tired of being in the backyard, he jumps the fence, runs around to the front of the house and lets himself in the front door.
This has been happening to our family regularly.

You might question why  he bothers to run to the front door? It is because our backdoor is unusually high above the ground and Pablo cannot reach the handle unless he jumps and opens it in midair.
The front door handle is lower, when Pablo stands on his hind legs, his paws reach the handle.
He is also known to let himself and his brother out of the house at their leisure. We must always lock the doors to prevent this.
Today though, it seems he let himself and Fernando outside for an adventure. Poor  Fernando arrived home terrified. I think a coyote must have chased him because he is trembling with fear and will not leave my feet as I type this.
I must watch Pablo like a hawk. My sister says she’s slightly afraid of a mind like his. She’s decided she better try harder to be on his good side…
