Pittock Mansion: Portland, Oregon

posted in: Travel, U.S.A. 0

The Pittocks of Portland built this fabulous mansion 1000 feet above Portland in the early 1920s. The Pittocks made their fortune in Newspapers, trains etc. Mr. Pittock had hopped on a wagon train at age 17–and landed in Portland area.
The couple had this house built for them when they were in their 70s. It sits high above Portland and has the most amazing grounds and views. The estate contains a gatekeeper’s home as well. The little girl who grew up in the gatekeeper house wrote that she fell asleep each night listening to the lions in the zoo below. I thought that would be lovely–to fall asleep to lion calls. And then I thought, perhaps not. Lions calling from a zoo enclosure may be unhappy calls.

My life is completely insane right now. No time to even breath it seems. I shall not bore you with the details but I will say my insane schedule has nothing to do with the Christmas season–in fact, I have done nothing for my girls’ Christmas except the advent calender thus far.
But this entire month or two will be a learning experience–what to try hard not to do with my life again.

Will fill you in with more interesting details about my life once I can breath again…

Portland is very humid and green.
