Here I am, back in the state of my conception. I was conceived in the USA and born in Canada. My parents were living in Eugene, Oregon USA before I was born. My dad was completing his Master’s degree at the University of Oregon.
Portland has proved to be the easiest city in the world to get around. We took the Max (light rail) red line right from the airport to a few blocks from our hotel. Our hotel is right down town–lots of shopping and walking distance to the river. We are staying at a historical hotel: The Governor.
Last night we switched rooms as I found it impossible to sleep to this odd motor like sound that was incessant (like a vacuum continually going in a room near us). Management could not find the cause of this noise although they admitted to hearing it in our room. They are moving us again today to a better room with a view.
Portland is a very Eco-Green city. Great city transport, lots of cyclists and lots of little dogs out and about downtown in their wee little winter coats. Tired today from lack of sleep. We shopped downtown, walked to the river and had lunch at The Rock Bottom Brewery. I bought myself a little Elph Canon camera–my big Rebel is too bulky to take everywhere and I am a shutter-bug extraordinaire. I love no sales tax in Oregon!
Taking it easy tonight–supper out and perhaps a movie in bed in the hotel–as I have to be up super early and must dance a full day tomorrow. Saving the real tourist stuff for Saturday–after my dance training. The dance training is far away across the river–will be travelling for over an hour on the Max Line and street car and finally on foot to get there.
