Venice Beach Bums, California

Spotted this sign posted on a street a few blocks from Venice Beach. So cool. We viewed the sign before we even got to the beach. It was the perfect temptation–made Venice Beach seem all the more exciting and mythical.

Venice Beach was our first L.A. stop. We had to explore the area famous for colourful characters. The morning was warm and, of course, the Southern California sun was shining. It was a perfect introduction to L.A.

I enjoyed walking through the retro streets on our way to the beach. The small craftsman style houses painted a pastoral image of the infamous area of L.A.

The board walk was seemingly quiet on a Sunday morn; which, was perfect for exploring as a family. We’d only just flown in the night before from a cooler, B.C. autumn climate–brilliantly coloured leaves falling from trees, a fall coat needed in the mornings.

To arrive on a warm, California Beach on the very next morning was a blissful treat.

Peter and Pip stop for a drink.

Notice the guy in green in the left corner? He’s promoting medicinal marijuana. There were signs and shops all along Venice Beach encouraging us to come inside and fill out some forms to see if we qualified for medicinal marijuana use (if we were Americans of course).

-Had the suspicion that one is handed an address where she/he can pick up this “medicinal” marijuana whether or not she/he qualifies…

Pip and I at muscle beach–flexing our powerful limbs for the crowd…

As a teenager, Peter had heard all about Muscle Beach and always wanted to see it. He was too shy to pose for a muscle flex pic so Pip and I obliged.

Peter and his gals take in the wondrously odd shopping along the board walk.

Time for some sand and surf–Mist was not sure about this… She was not going to take off her boots and tights–could we please just go back to the board walk? No way! I was going to play in the Pacific Ocean on a warm California day no matter what.

Peter and Mist were determined not to get wet but nothing could stop Tabs, and I. Pip was undecided about her boots…

Watch out Pacific! Here comes Tabs!

Tabs loves the ocean. She’s always the first one to explore–looking for interesting sea life.

I thought I could manage not getting my jeans wet..no chance. One rouge wave and I was soaked to my knees. Good thing L.A. is so warm in October–my pants dried within 1/2 h.

I am most happy on a warm ocean beach. I love playing in the ocean.

A portrait of my water girl, Tabs. She looks very Venice Beach in this pic–her tye-dyed tights.
PA130033
Pip, still in her boots. I can’t remember why she wouldn’t take them off.

Tabs, Pip and Peter.

Pip and I–I think I’m trying to persuade her to take off the boots in this pic.

Success! The boots are off! Tabs and Pip, playing on Venice Beach, California.

Looking for shells-Tabs and Pip.

After the beach–putting my sandals back on, my jeans wet to my knees. But what a great morning!
