A Family United In Its Divide

IMG_5760 My dad asked me to paint a graphic for a poster advertising his speech supporting the Northern Gateway Pipeline. I am an activist against the pipeline. What to do?

This is the graphic image I produced last night after blood, sweat and nearly cutting off my ear. I have the artistic temperament and when I create with paint, things get serious. I am trying to work on this temperament but let me just say, that if I had a knife handy last night, I would have cut off my ear.

The graphic is for a poster advertising a talk at Thompson Rivers University about the Northern Gateway Pipeline. The very pipeline I have been an activist against.

My father is speaking at this talk. His argument is for the pipeline. He is using the Canadian political negative ramifications (of rejecting the pipeline) to support his arguments.

I am against the pipeline. I am using the ecological devastation to the North Pacific temporate rainforest  and coastal regions (near Prince Rupert) to support my argument.

My dad asked me to make a graphic for his poster. He’s my dad. I said yes.

He wanted an attractive pipeline and oil tanker.
I wanted a spirit bear and other creatures drowning in a river of crude oil.

I compromised.
My dad got his tanker and I got my spirit bear.

If anything, I hope it will draw in anyone curious about the pipeline to listen to his talk. But in the end, I hope they think of the fragile rainforest ecosystem and Northwestern Coastal waters and say NO!
